Part of the amazing thing about ISTC is the feeling of belonging. It’s a bittersweet moment when you go home and tell your camp stories to family and friends, but they just don’t get it. “It’s a camp thing” becomes your argument when people don’t quite understand why wearing knee-high tie dye socks on Tuesdays is funny.
Until we looked at some recent stats from the American Camp Association (ACA), we didn’t realize how big “it’s a camp thing” stretched. Did you know that over 11 million children and adults attend camp every summer at 5,000 day camps 7,000 sleepaway camps in the U.S.? We were blown away by those numbers, so we dug a little deeper into the ACA’s stats and found them so interesting that we created an infographic to share them with you. Take a look to learn more about the awesome camp industry family that you’re a part of!
Which of these stats are you most surprised by? And what are your favorite “it’s a camp thing” traditions that you remember from the summer? Let us know in the comments!
