Does my camper need to be an athlete to enjoy ISTC sports programs? The short answer is no!
Both our All Sports and IXTC programs are built with recreation in mind, with our main goal of building life skills through sports. Even though ‘training’ is in our name, our programs ‘train’ campers to be more well-rounded through diverse activities in a supportive, inclusive, co-ed environment. Games are run so that everyone can play, have fun, and create memories; let’s dive into the top reasons why sports the ISTC Way are for everyone!
Team Building & Sportsmanship
ISTC is not centered on individual achievement or athletic prowess, our programs are rooted in building friends and life skills through sports. Activities like rock climbing, banana boating, and mountain biking do not have a competitive end goal, so they place a strong emphasis on team building. Working together to overcome fun obstacles like these not only enhances the idea of sportsmanship, but also instills confidence in trying new things, which extends beyond the camp experience.
Opportunities for Personal Growth
Campers grow personally by being part of a team. By repeatedly trying new activities during the camp experience, like jet skiing, golf, pickleball, and archery, campers learn open-mindedness. By creating shared experiences with their team, campers develop interpersonal skills. By constantly cheering others on, campers learn to be supportive. ISTC is truly a place for campers to build positive habits to take back to life at home.
Cultural Enrichment
ISTC brings together campers and staff from different corners of the globe, creating a rich tapestry of cultures and perspectives. Campers learn about customs and traditions from outside of the US, as many of our staff are from UK, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland! Learning to be curious at ISTC fosters a global mindset, which is just another layer of enrichment amidst all of the sports-based values.
More than Just Sports
The sports at ISTC are combined with an inclusive recreation program. All campers take on our themed cabin-of-the-week competitions, which bring everyone together for different events. From relays to lip syncs to silent discos, everyone gets involved to create memories and deepen friendships.
Closing Thoughts
ISTC’s supportive environment built around sports and recreation instills confidence, builds resilience, and helps campers make friends – all things that everyone enjoys and benefits from!
