Campers with incomplete or missing items are not permitted to check-in. Physical Exam & Immunization Records (completed and signed by doctor) Health History Form (entirely online - found in parent portal) Attendance Agreement (entirely online - found in parent portal) PARENT ACCOUNT LOG-IN Once logged in, the space to upload or complete each item can be found under "Forms & Documents". Please contact our office if you are having difficulties logging in. PHYSICAL EXAM & IMMUNIZATION RECORD PHYSICAL EXAM OVERVIEW For the 2026 season, the exam date for all physicals must be after June 1, 2025. We have a template form you can bring to your doctor, although you can use any physical form that covers the same information. Many families send us physical exams they have used for school, sports, or other camps because the information overlaps. All physical exams must be signed and dated by a doctor. ELIGIBILITY FORM ≠ PHYSICAL EXAM Participation eligibility forms do not meet the requirements of a physical examination form. We require the details of a recent physical exam visit with a doctor to ensure the best care for your child. ADJUSTING ROOMMATE REQUESTS Simply email (office@international-sports. com) or text (570-620-2267) to change your camper's roommate requests. We do not finalize the cabins and sports teams until summer, so there is plenty of time to make changes. Please ensure requests are up to date 2 weeks before your scheduled check-in. You'll find out your camper's cabin number and counselors' names during check-in. ROOMMATE REQUEST POLICIES GENERAL POLICY All campers can list up to 3 friends they would like to be in cabin with. Additional requests can be noted, but are not prioritized. Requests can only be honored if everyone in the group is within 2-years of age. SIBLINGS Siblings that are more than 2 years apart will be placed in separate cabins, despite how great they get along at home. Fortunately, both afternoon and evening recreation feature free time that allows campers from different cabins to do activities together. Alternatively, we can accept requests for siblings to be placed in different cabins. NON-REQUESTS ISTC is focused on camaraderie and growth; we do not accept non-requests. LARGE GROUPS It is not always possible to keep large groups together, despite all requests meeting our requirements. In the event a group is too large, we will split the group based on individual requests so that everyone is with at least one of their requested friends. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION CABIN AMENITIES Equipped with air conditioning and bunk beds, your camper's cabin is their home base for the week. Cabins are organized... --- - Published: 2026-01-08 - Modified: 2026-01-12 - URL: https://www.international-sports.com/payments-portal/ BALANCES ARE DUE MAY 1ST BEFORE YOU PAY Before making your final payment, please ensure your week and checkout selections are accurate. Your invoice will show the complete breakdown of session, check-out day, and discounts, which we can resend upon request. Please remember we are not able to refund canceled weekend days after May 1st. See cancellation policy for full details. MAIL A CHECK All checks should be mailed to our office: International Sports Training Camp - 1100 Twin Lake Road - Stroudsburg, PA 18360 Please include your camper's name in the memo. Upon receipt, our team will send a confirmation email with an updated invoice. PAY WITH CARD We accept Visa & Mastercard for card payments. Credit cards incur an additional 3. 00% fee on each transaction; debit cards do not incur this fee. If you selected the "credit/debit card" payment preference during your application, we will automatically charge the balance to your saved card on the May 1st payment deadline; we'll send email reminders before this happens. Alternatively, you can make payments throughout the year via the "Financial Management" tab in your parent account. SET UP CANTEEN ACCOUNT Set up your camper's canteen account before their arrival. The canteen is our onsite store - open to campers every afternoon and evening. It features concession options like ice cream, french fries, chicken fingers, pizza, and more. Prior to May 1st, we can change checkout dates at no cost. You'll simply receive a new invoice reflecting the updated checkout day. After May 1st, it is still possible to adjust your checkout date, although we are not able to refund the difference in canceled days. If you are on the fence between our Friday, Saturday, or Sunday checkout options, we recommend the Friday. It is easier for us to add than reduce, especially with the change in policy after May 1st. Friday Checkout Time 11:00am to 12:00pm Saturday Checkout Time 10:00am to 11:00am Sunday Checkout Time 10:00am to 11:00am ADD TO A WAITLIST To place your camper to a waitlist, please submit an additional application in your parent account. Don't worry, you will remain in your current week and this waitlisted week will be separate. Waitlists are free to join - no is deposit required despite the application asking for card information. You will receive confirmation once your camper has been added to waitlist verifying your card has not been charged.... --- - Published: 2025-11-20 - Modified: 2025-11-20 - URL: https://www.international-sports.com/accessibility-statement/ International Sports Training Camp is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for all website visitors, including people with disabilities. Hosted in a private “IXTC Village,” this week-long experience empowers teens aged 15-17 to build their own schedule, stay up later, sleep in a bit more, and play sports all day long. Campers tackle excitement-filled activities like mountain biking, rock climbing, jet skiing, tubing, high ropes and even a camper vs. staff dodgeball game. With only about 40-45 teens per week, IXTC fosters a tight-knit community where leadership, teamwork, confidence, independence, and quick decision-making thrive. More than extreme sports, IXTC is about growth. Participants emerge with a stronger sense of self, lifelong friendships, and memories that last far beyond summer. Are you ready for IXTC? Whether you're looking to push your limits, make lifelong friends, or just have the most unforgettable week of your summer, IXTC delivers it all. It’s more than just adventure, it’s a chance to grow, lead, and thrive in a community that’s as fun as it is supportive. If you're ready to take your camp experience to the next level, we'll see you this summer, at IXTC. --- - Published: 2023-05-25 - Modified: 2023-05-25 - URL: https://www.international-sports.com/arrival-day-feedback/ We appreciate you taking the time to provide your feedback. --- - Published: 2023-02-28 - Modified: 2023-02-28 - URL: https://www.international-sports.com/request-info/ var ss_form = {'account': 'MzY0MDA2NTE1AwA', 'formID': 'S0tKNE8ysDTXNbZMNtU1MTS10LUwMTfQNTc0MUgxNTMzTDYwAQA'}; ss_form. width = '100%'; ss_form. domain = 'app-3RC1D02W7O. marketingautomation. services'; // ss_form. hidden = {'field_id': 'value'}; // Modify this for sending hidden variables, or overriding values // ss_form. target_id = 'target'; // Optional parameter: forms will be placed inside the element with the specified id // ss_form. polling = true; // Optional parameter: set to true ONLY if your page loads dynamically and the id needs to be polled continually. --- - Published: 2023-01-31 - Modified: 2024-04-08 - URL: https://www.international-sports.com/welcome-to-all-sports-camp/ https://829llc-1. wistia. com/medias/md6sxc2ubk? embedType=async&videoFoam=true&videoWidth=850 TWO OVERNIGHT PROGRAMS TO CHOOSE FROM! If your child is growing up and is ready to move on to an overnight camp experience, we are the perfect choice that is close to home. Our one-of-a-kind program offers a blend of sports sessions and traditional summer camp activities in a beautiful 400-acre facility. In addition to sports your child may already be familiar with, such as soccer and basketball, we also include adventure sports like rock climbing, mountain biking and jet skiing. Alongside our sports sessions, campers get to enjoy traditional camp activities like campfires, archery, dances, and fun recreation events. Over the past 30 years, ISTC has operated to the same high standards as our sister facility and is accredited by the American Camp Association. If you are ready to see everything ISTC has to offer, we encourage you to schedule a personal tour. We'd love to continue our summer camp relationship with your family and can't wait to see your child at ISTC this summer. --- - Published: 2020-03-19 - Modified: 2022-03-07 - URL: https://www.international-sports.com/coronavirus/ COVID-19 FAQ's Updated May 27th We are excited to announce we are opening this summer for our 30th Anniversary year. We have spent the past months creating a plan of action that will allow us to operate as close to our normal program in a way that will provide as much safety to our campers and staff as possible. For more information on how we plan to operate, please see our COVID-19 Guidelines document below. Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to us. As things continue to develop, we will continue to update our guidelines and keep you up to date with any changes. What If I Wish To Cancel? As we are opening as normal, our standard refund policy will apply and deposits are non-refundable. Are Campers Required To Have The COVID-19 Vaccine? With regards to the recent ability for children ages 12 and up to receive the vaccine, we are looking forward to more children being vaccinated, but we are not mandating that our campers have the COVID-19 vaccine to attend camp. If your camper is fully vaccinated, a negative PCR test will not be required prior to your arrival. What If Camp Is Required To Close? While we do not anticipate this happening, should the State require us to close or enforce capacity limits on our program, we will offer any affected families the opportunity to roll the fees paid to summer 2022. --- - Published: 2019-02-28 - Modified: 2020-06-01 - URL: https://www.international-sports.com/igc-sister-camp-0219/ Welcome IGC Families, International Sports Training Camp is located only one mile from International Gymnastics Camp and is perfect for siblings, friends, and gymnasts looking for an amazing sports summer camp experience. Our campers leave us at the end of their stay as fun-loving, active, free-spirited, adventurous leaders-in-training with a conscience. And this doesn’t happen by coincidence... it happens because of the firmly-rooted values cherished by ISTC director Kara Klaus. Kara firmly believes in being a part of the ISTC experience and is constantly involved in all camp activities. Kara has been surrounded by sports and camps for the majority of her life and has a great passion and enthusiasm for the camp experience. Kara majored in public relations with a minor in sports science while competing as a Division I scholarship gymnast at the University of Maryland. Camp Founder Bruno Klaus, the owner and founder of the world-famous International Gymnastics Camp, opened up ISTC in 1991 after so many of his gymnastic camp families kept asking him to open a sports camp for their kids that did not do gymnastics. Bruno listened, and established a premier sports camp adjacent to the gymnastics camp property. It’s their energy that’ll envelop you, their smiles that’ll welcome you and their cheers that’ll give you the confidence to be your best! We truly believe our mature and incredibly well trained staff, who are super friendly and supportive, are just one of the reasons our campers love us so much! We firmly believe that our outstanding staff members are the foundation of ISTC. Without their passion, dedication and expertise, ISTC would be no where near where it is today. Our staff members are age 21 and over and are carefully selected from all over the world; each year we spend months scouring the world, seeking out individuals that embody ISTC's ideals, enthusiasm and dedication. Most of our staff are chosen in-person, at job fairs, after they’ve gone through a detailed interview process. We look for people who are brimming with character and passion. That’s because we believe that in order to build campers with heart we first need staff members with heart. It takes a special kind of person to work at ISTC. You don’t have to be a super athlete ... you just have to love athletics! Our All Sports Camp program is open to anyone aged 8-16, male or female, who has a love for sports, regardless of whether they’re an expert or novice. Teams are co-ed, a mix of skill sets, and based on age. So, your child will be playing with and challenged by kids their own age. Why, IXTC, of course! An adventure camp that mixes extreme sports with building life skills... all while having the time of your life! Imagine days filled with goose bump-inducing activities like mountain biking, rock climbing, jet skiing and tubing. Nights are packed with excitement – a dance party on the beach and even a dodgeball competition that pairs IXTCers against the coaching staff (an all-time camper favorite). But it’s not just about sports, adventure, and friends. IXTC builds skills that’ll last a lifetime... skills like teamwork, leadership, confidence, independence, decision making and the ability to voice their opinions. Teens at our extreme sports camp have a lot more freedom in their schedule than other younger campers. It’s kind of like a camp within a camp! They live within our brand new specially designed IXTC Village, giving them a sense of family and community within their sports camp program. They have the power to customize their experience by choosing their own activities. They get to stay up later, sleep in later, and finish their week with an IXTC traditional campfire where they spend time bonding and savoring their camp friendships. Each camper follows the same daily summer camp schedule, whether they are international campers or U. S. campers. They stay in the same cabins and participate in the same activities together, to facilitate a sense of togetherness and unity. International campers really soak up the U. Well, the good news is we book up fast. The bad news? We book up fast. So, we always recommend that parents sign up as early as they can. We take applications all year round, so as long as the program still has spots open and it hasn’t started yet, you can register. To register your child in the program of your choice, fill out our summer camp application form. The week I want to register is booked up or closed, can I be added to a waiting list? Even though we book up fast, almost every year some campers on our waiting list get in. So, if your chosen weeks are full, you can go online and complete our summer camp application form for your preferred week(s). You’ll be asked for your credit card information but you WILL NOT be charged unless a spot opens up and we’ve confirmed you want to take the spot by email. Once your application is complete, you’ll automatically be added to the waiting list and if a spot becomes available, we go to the first person in line. Hint, hint – the earlier you get on the list, the more likely you’ll be to get your spot... so don’t delay! What time should we arrive for camp Check In? You can arrive on the first day of camp (Sunday) any time between 1:30pm – 3:30pm. We believe in introducing our campers to a wide variety of sports and activities so that they have the opportunity to learn new games, push their comfort zones, and discover new skills and talents. Team sports like soccer and basketball bring campers together to instill sportsmanship and respect for others. Adventure sports like jet skiing, mountain biking, and rock climbing encourage campers to take on new challenges with an open mind. Helping campers discover these qualities is just as important as the memories they make, so this month's blog will dive into how ISTC develops life skills while keeping things fun. Cabin of the Week Each camp day at ISTC contains 3 structured sports sessions run by our coaching staff. In between these sports, we host an all camp competition called Cabin-of-the-Week. This competition not only brings everyone together for tech free experiences, like relays, skits, and other camp created games, but it also reinforces several habits that are great for life outside of camp. Campers learn to work together to achieve a goal, since many events rely on whole cabin participation to succeed. Cabin-of-the-Week also rewards cheering for others, even if they are not in the same cabin. High fiving after events and clapping for others win or lose, are healthy steps towards becoming more emotionally intelligent. Team of the Week Similarly, the Team-of-the-Week competition drives sportsmanship and inclusion. Teams earn points by displaying sportsmanship, leadership, positivity, and camp spirit at the different program areas. As much as the ropes... --- - Published: 2026-04-26 - Modified: 2026-04-26 - URL: https://www.international-sports.com/the-benefits-of-outdoor-sports/ - Categories: Uncategorized Both the All Sports & IXTC Programs emphasize outdoor sports and adventure activities. With options like jet skiing and mountain biking, campers are disconnecting from technology to take on various experiences. While these activities lead to awesome memories, there are also several benefits tied to exploring adventure sports. Removing Competitive Pressure Many campers attend ISTC with extensive sports backgrounds; they play on competitive travel teams that focus on winning results and college exposure. Adventure sports at ISTC, like rock climbing and bouldering, remove this intensity and focus on individual progression. Instead of timing how fast campers can climb the routes, campers are encouraged to choose paths that challenge them. Effort is celebrated, even if campers aren't able to finish a route, because it shows resilience and progress towards a new goal. Encouraging campers to explore, without fear of losing or getting benched, is an important step in creating positive mindsets. Making Friends Removing competitive pressure also builds friendships. Rather than seeing teammates as those who can steal their starting spot, ISTC's activities are built on working together to achieve a goal. Cabin-of-the-week events use whole cabin participation to earn points. By rewarding inclusion, campers learn that success happens when everyone comes together. By rewarding good sportsmanship behaviors like cheering others on, campers learn to be supportive of one another. ISTC becomes a place for campers to build positive habits to take back to life at home. Individual Accomplishment There is also depth to taking on activities solo; jet skiing, golf,... --- - Published: 2026-03-25 - Modified: 2026-03-25 - URL: https://www.international-sports.com/preventing-homesickness/ - Categories: Uncategorized Feeling confident about our overnight camp programs is the first step toward an amazing ISTC experience. With summer only a few months away, we want to provide our top recommendations for building this confidence and preventing homesickness. It Starts with the Parents/Guardians Simply feeling informed and on track for camp will help everyone feel more relaxed about what's to come. We encourage everyone to read through our resources like the Preparing for Camp Guide, 1st Time Camper Guide, and Packing List. Additionally, checking out our videos is an awesome way to see everything come together; it's also proof to your camper that other kids attend and have so much fun! Year after year, we find that campers feed off their parents' energy; confident parents equals confident campers. Set Honest & Positive Expectations Both our All Sports & IXTC Programs focus on disconnecting from tech and building social experiences through sports. Campers and staff leave their cell phones behind, which means campers and parents do not have opportunities to chat during the week. It is important to be upfront about this change with your camper, as surprises when nerves are at play tends to escalates things. Painting tech free and other elements of our programs in a positive lens also drives the narrative that camp is awesome. For instance, "at camp, you won't have your cell phone because you'll be too busy swimming at the lake and competing in cabin-of-the-week events with your friends". Instead of highlighting the lack of Instagram,... --- - Published: 2026-02-20 - Modified: 2026-02-20 - URL: https://www.international-sports.com/istc-staff-the-backbone-of-every-campers-experience/ - Categories: Uncategorized Before any of the activities like jet skiing, banana boating, rock climbing, soccer, and golf take place, campers are first introduced to the ISTC staff that will be taking care of them. Every camper has several counselors, who live in their cabin and assist with day-to-day happenings. They are also assigned a number of All Sports Coaches, who facilitate all of the team and adventure sports. Both sets of staff heavily influence the ISTC experience, so we'd like to provide even more information about them in this month's blog. With international in the camp name, we are fortunate to bring in counselors, coaches, and other staff from around the world each summer. In addition to the United States, many staff members are from England, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, and Scotland. Further, most staff members are in university for sports management, physical education, and other teaching professions. Since our All Sports and IXTC programs are focused on building life skills through sports, coaching sports is intrinsic to most roles; however, we are most interested in candidates who are dedicated, responsible, charismatic, and kind. Our international staff have opportunities to teach sports from their home countries, which we love. Giving campers the ability to play uncommon U. S. sports like rugby, cricket, and Aussie rules football aligns with our program goals; we want campers to try new things in hopes of discovering interests to pursue outside of camp. For our international staff, we are partnered with several agencies to narrow down candidates.... --- - Published: 2026-02-05 - Modified: 2026-02-05 - URL: https://www.international-sports.com/introducing-the-information-portals/ - Categories: Uncategorized Air conditioning, golf, bouldering, waterfront inflatables, pickleball, MTB pump track, ATV's - these recent additions to the All Sports & IXTC programs show our love for improving the camper experience. The short answer is no! Both our All Sports and IXTC programs are built with recreation in mind, with our main goal of building life skills through sports. Even though 'training' is in our name, our programs 'train' campers to be more well-rounded through diverse activities in a supportive, inclusive, co-ed environment. Games are run so that everyone can play, have fun, and create memories; let's dive into the top reasons why sports the ISTC Way are for everyone! Team Building & Sportsmanship ISTC is not centered on individual achievement or athletic prowess, our programs are rooted in building friends and life skills through sports. Activities like rock climbing, banana boating, and mountain biking do not have a competitive end goal, so they place a strong emphasis on team building. Working together to overcome fun obstacles like these not only enhances the idea of sportsmanship, but also instills confidence in trying new things, which extends beyond the camp experience. Opportunities for Personal Growth Campers grow personally by being part of a team. By repeatedly trying new activities during the camp experience, like jet skiing, golf, pickleball, and archery, campers learn open-mindedness. By creating shared experiences with their team, campers develop interpersonal skills. By constantly cheering others on, campers learn to be supportive. Although our overnight programs are focused on adventure and team sports like jet skiing, rock climbing, mountain biking, and soccer - to name a few signature activities - it is the sense of community and space to create friendships that makes ISTC feel like family. Let's dive into the heart of our camp atmosphere! Building Bonds Beyond the Field One of ISTC's defining features is the opportunity for campers to form connections beyond the playing field. Away from the pressures of everyday life, campers share cabins, meals, and recreation activities, creating an environment conducive to building friendships without technology. Shared Experiences - Shared Growth Our All Sports & IXTC programs bring campers together to experience adventure activities and team sports. Whether it's conquering a challenge at the Ropes Course or celebrating victories within our cabin-of-the-week competitions, the camp environment quickly becomes a nurturing space where everyone is invested in each other's success. Supportive Staff Our dedicated and caring staff play a crucial role in cultivating family atmosphere. Coaches and counselors are the parents away from home - offering guidance, encouragement, and a listening ear. This mentorship goes beyond sports instruction, providing campers with a support system focused on making camp as fun as possible. Embracing Inclusion Families come in all shapes and sizes, and ISTC is no exception!... --- - Published: 2025-10-23 - Modified: 2025-10-29 - URL: https://www.international-sports.com/exciting-upgrade-for-summer-2026/ - Categories: Uncategorized At the end of every ISTC week, campers are given the chance to voice their ideas for additions to the ISTC experience. While we are still figuring out the if the heavily requested "zip line over the lake" is possible - trust us, we think it would be awesome too - we are beyond excited to announce another popular idea is coming to life! Summer 2026 will be the first in ISTC history to have air conditioning in all of the cabins! Our team has been hard at work to make air conditioning a reality; cabins 5-10 already have their units installed and we anticipate completing the rest by end of fall. When making changes to our All Sports and IXTC programs, it is important to maintain the camp atmosphere our families have grown to love over the past 35 years. Are the programs still focused on various sports and outdoor activities - yes! Are we still technology free - of course! Do we want our campers to leave with increased confidence and independence - of course! These are only a few considerations our team keeps in mind, and fortunately, we are optimistic air conditioning will only enhance the ISTC experience. Not only will air conditioning simply feel nice for campers and staff on a day to day basis, we believe it will have genuine benefits for our overnight programs. For campers who are nervous about sleeping away from home for the first time, air conditioning minimizes the differences between... --- - Published: 2025-09-09 - Modified: 2025-11-17 - URL: https://www.international-sports.com/our-favorite-camp-activities-from-summer-2025/ - Categories: Uncategorized Just a couple weeks ago, we concluded our 35th summer of ISTC! We are so grateful for the opportunity to help campers build life skills through sports year after year. While activities change, the overall philosophy of our programs stays the same. Adventure activities like jet skiing, rock climbing, and mountain biking have become staples because they push campers to not only have fun, but to grow in confidence. This summer’s additions quickly became favorites for the same reasons – let’s dive in! Golf Located near mountain biking and pickleball, we debuted golf as part of our adventure program. We installed both a driving range and putting green area so campers can learn the sport in different capacities. With individual instruction from our team, campers will be introduced to the basics and have the ability to try a variety of clubs in a pressure free environment. Campers have a session of golf built into their schedule and can also choose to visit the driving range and putting green during afternoon open recreation periods! Bouldering While campers are not climbing the rock wall tower, tackling the high ropes obstacles, or zooming on the zipline, bouldering is now an additional element at our Ropes Course! The bouldering pavilion allows campers to take on a unique challenge while also staying cool and dry. Bouldering is the perfect rainy-day option for campers who love to climb and traverse the elements, although it is open during campers’ ropes course sessions and recreation periods. So much of our programming focuses on teaching campers sports from around the world, although 4th of July is a chance for us to bask in red, white, and blue. The 4th of July celebrations supplement the action-packed sports activities, making it one of the most exciting times to be at ISTC. Let's dive into what makes this week so awesome! 4th of July Fireworks Every week finishes with a culminating activity as part of our cabin-of-the-week competitions - and there's nothing better than a private fireworks show to bring everyone together. The fireworks take place at camp over the lake, giving everyone a picturesque view. Not to mention, the watch party is full of music and the week's rewind video - truly the cherry on top of an already amazing week. Patriotic Camp Events The rest of the week's cabin-of-the-week competitions are America themed! From classic relay events to unique ones like building a giant sand castle structure, they are full of patriotic flair. The Wednesday night dance is also filled with red, white, and blue costumes. Most notably, these times are focused on bringing everyone together for high energy fun. All American Cookout To celebrate the holiday, our Food Service team prepares the most extravagant meal of the summer - a hearty cookout that includes burgers, ribs, chicken wings, hotdogs, specialty salads, and more. Whether it’s your first time joining us or your seventh summer in a row, here are 5 reasons why this time of year is perfect for enrolling in one of our single week overnight sessions: Celebrate School’s Out Our June sessions kick off the season with incredible energy, giving campers an early dose of sunshine, fresh air, and unforgettable memories. It’s the ultimate way to shake off the school year, take a break from technology, and dive into outdoor adventure. Smaller Camp Sizes, Bigger Connections June sessions have slightly smaller enrollment than peak summer weeks, which means more personalized time with our staff, extra space at our adventure facilities, and closer bonds with teammates and cabinmates. It’s ideal for first-time campers to ease into the ISTC experience or for returners to enjoy a more relaxed start to the season. Full Access to Every Activity From the waterfront obstacle course to archery, basketball, and everything in between, campers get full access to all our amazing activities. Every sport is in full swing, our equipment is freshly prepped, and our staff is ready to go—all that’s missing is you. Perfect Weather for Outdoor Play June offers some of the best weather of the season: warm, sunny days and cool, comfortable nights. It’s great for getting active, enjoying the outdoors, and sleeping well after a full day of team sports. Is there something different about the weeks in the early parts of summer? No! We proudly offer the same multi-sport, overnight camp experience each week of the season! All signature activities such as the jet skiing, banana boating, rock climbing, and mountain biking run all summer long. Not to mention, our staff live onsite for the entire summer, making sure the ISTC atmosphere remains upbeat and welcoming. Why do the other weeks fill much earlier? Families tell us that the weeks of mid-July to early-August are often used as “blackout” weeks for sports, meaning teams cannot schedule practices, tournaments, or tryouts during those times. As a high energy sports facility, we understand wanting to be available for as many athletic events as possible. So, why are the early sessions just as awesome? While anytime is perfect for the ISTC experience, prioritizing camp at the beginning of summer has advantages coming off school, promoting flexibility, and celebrating 4th of July. Freedom to Commit to Other Summer Plans Booking camp for the end of June or start of July gives you flexibility to plan for the rest of summer - worry-free. ISTC is designed as a one-week experience to supplement the other awesome things you might have planned already. Camping early means you can partake in sports tournaments, family vacations, and other social events without a break. Not mention, your camper will be... --- - Published: 2025-03-21 - Modified: 2025-03-21 - URL: https://www.international-sports.com/last-minute-summer-camp-enrollment-what-parents-need-to-know/ - Categories: Uncategorized Every June, the first day of camp is a celebration of two years at once! The first day marks the return of campers and all of the ISTC excitement – jet skiing, banana boating, ropes course, mountain biking, and team sports to name a few! It also signals the start of registration for the following summer! With registration opening over a full year in advance on the first day of camp, we are incredibly thankful to have such an excited community. The weeks of mid-July to mid-August will traditionally fill before the summer months conclude. We understand it makes signing up outside of this window feel last minute, so this month’s blog will cover need to know information about signing up for camp during the rest of the year. Same Opportunities Each Week As a single week, overnight experience, our sessions are designed to see and do everything from start to finish in 7 day's time. Each session shares the same activity schedule, filled with adventure sports like jet skiing and rock climbing, to team sports like soccer and basketball. The sessions even share the same structure for cabin-of-the-week, our recreation program built around full-camp competitions. While themes change week to week to give multi-week campers a unique feel, each session offers the same activities, staff, and facilities - just at a different time on the calendar! Some of our top recommendations for helping campers feel as ready as possible actually stem from the parents/guardians. It is important to exude confidence for all things ISTC because if you are nervous, your camper may pick up and match this energy. To avoid this, we encourage everyone to read through our free resources, such as the Preparing for Camp Guide and 1st Time Camper Guide; they detail key dates, the nature of our programs, and even have a packing list. We also offer group tours, so that everyone can become even more familiar with our facilities and programs. Simply feeling informed and on track for the ISTC experience will help you feel more relaxed about what’s to come, which will help your camper feel at ease too. Now that you are in tune with who we are and what we do, it is helpful to paint a positive image of the ISTC experience for your camper. Discuss what camp will be like with your camper while highlighting the awesomeness to come. For example, ISTC is tech-free, so campers and staff will not have cell phones, video games, and other devices during their stay. It is intentional program design to help kids disconnect from social media drama, build their interpersonal skills, and focus on the various sports we offer. Within our private 500-acre property, we have several departments working simultaneously to give campers the best possible experience. Waterfront, ropes course, mountain biking, and team sports stand out as our signatures, but like a city, there are several smaller elements that influence the feel and culture. This month’s blog will dive into activities beyond the field that truly add to the ISTC experience. Cabin-of-the-Week Outside of the three structured sports sessions each day, campers partake in our cabin-of-the-week programming. Cabin-of-the-week focuses on daily competitions that bring the entire camp together. Campers earn points towards the overall title by placing in events like eating contests, relays, skits, and more. Each week has a distinct theme that changes the costumes and events, so no two weeks are alike. The traditional camp elements of making cheers, dressing up as a cabin, and working towards a common goal are perfect for creating memories and building friendships. Not to mention, cabin-of-the-week houses campfire s’mores and the weekly dance – two more awesome social opportunities. Beyond the fields, cabin-of-the-week adds spark to our camp programs and brings everyone together in a healthy way. Weekend Events Cabin-of-the-week and our structured sports programming conclude Friday morning; however, the weekends include a few exclusive activities that have become a genuinely fun part of the ISTC experience. On top of having free choice time to revisit favorite spots like the lake and canteen, Friday’s highlight has become the silent disco. Since the Waterfront is a signature area we build on year after year, we are excited to highlight our featured lake activities. At the very minimum, all campers have two scheduled times at the Waterfront during a one-week stay. For the All Sports program (our main offering), the two sessions are focused on jet skiing and banana boating; for IXTC (our program for 15-17 year olds), the sessions are jet skiing and tubing. Regardless of age and athletic ability, our goal is to give campers the opportunity to safely partake in adventure activities they might not have access to at home. Jet Skiing With a staff member certified to operate personal watercraft in PA, campers are guided as they drive the defined course. The activity is scaled with age; older campers will have increased freedom steering the jet ski while younger campers will have more support from their lifeguard instructor. Jet ski is included with the cost of All Sports and IXTC programs, so it is automatically included in every campers' schedule. Banana Boating Sitting or kneeling on a longer banana shaped tube, campers are towed via jet ski by our lifeguards. As our driver takes twists and turns, campers experience the thrill of waves, splashes, and speed. Banana boating is among our campers' favorite activities given its fast paced, adventurous nature.... --- - Published: 2024-12-02 - Modified: 2024-12-02 - URL: https://www.international-sports.com/the-power-of-play-at-istc/ - Categories: Uncategorized Teaching life skills through sports is at the heart of the ISTC experience. Whether campers are competitive athletes or passionate about other hobbies, all campers find common ground during their time at camp through play. Regardless of athletic experience at home, all campers partake in team sports, adventure activities, and cabin-of-the-week competitions. This month’s blog will dive into the nature of play at ISTC and the impact we hope it has on our campers. Although “training” is in our name, our main programs are not purely focused on athletic development but are recreation based. Sports at ISTC are any outdoor activity, which includes jet skiing, banana boating, rock climbing, and mountain biking. These adventure sports do not have a competitive end goal, but rather, are mediums to inspire personal growth. Instead of seeing which campers can climb the quickest, the rock climbing session encourages campers to tackle a challenge and support others as they take on the elements. Removing competitive pressure allows campers to explore without fear of losing and further, creates an environment rooted in building others up instead of tearing them down. All adventure activities and team sports are led by our coaching staffing in three structured sessions each day; however, we also offer recreation or open play time for campers as well. Each of these times begins with a cabin-of-the-week competition, which are events, relays, and other contests focused on bringing cabins together. After the event, open play begins – meaning all signature activities are available to... --- - Published: 2024-05-17 - Modified: 2026-03-25 - URL: https://www.international-sports.com/fueling-champions-nutrition-for-overnight-camp/ - Categories: Uncategorized Whether campers are enrolled in our All Sports or IXTC program, they’ll take on 5 activity periods each day. Three of them are structured sport sessions led by our coaching staff and the remaining two are recreation periods, focused on exploration and free choice. All periods have campers running, playing, swimming, and more as they take on signature activities like jet skiing, banana boating, rock climbing, mountain biking, or any of the international sports our coaches teach. Given the action-packed schedule, it is important that campers receive the proper fuel they need to take everything on with a smile. Let’s jump into nutrition and food service at ISTC. With such a full schedule, nutrition isn’t just important for overnight recovery—it plays a role throughout the entire day. From early morning activities to the final session in the evening, consistent energy depends on balanced meals and smart snacking that keep campers fueled and focused. Guidance from practitioners at JM Nutrition can help shape meal planning that supports endurance, hydration, and overall performance without slowing anyone down. When nutrition is steady and well-timed, campers are better equipped to enjoy every activity and keep up with the pace from start to finish. We offer 3 complete meals per day: breakfast, lunch, and dinner in our Lake View Center. Campers will be called in as a group with their cabins and counselors to ensure everyone attends the meal service. As they come into the dining hall, campers are welcomed to the main serving lines,... --- - Published: 2024-04-19 - Modified: 2025-11-18 - URL: https://www.international-sports.com/conquering-pre-camp-jitters-a-guide-for-families/ - Categories: Uncategorized With camp beginning in June, it is truly time to get ready for the ISTC experience. Our Preparing for Camp and At Camp Guides cover all of the logistics; however, we want to set the stage even further. Mentally preparing for our action-packed, sleep away experience should be a happy process; we strive for everyone to feel excited for camp. As such, we’ll be addressing the most common pre-camp jitters and how to minimize them. “Camp is scary because I’ve never done anything like it before” Giving campers a unique experience is part of the design for our main programs, All Sports and IXTC. We want campers to take on new activities like jet skiing, banana boating, rock climbing and mountain biking so that the idea of doing things outside of their comfort zone becomes exhilarating. For those that might be a bit nervous, becoming familiar with our schedule, activities offered, and facilities can squash any fear of the unknown. We have videos that illustrate “A Week in the Life” and “First-Time at Camp” so that families can get a sense of the action and atmosphere before arrival. We can also recommend coming for a tour to physically see everything and connect with our staff. Our virtual tour is another insightful option for those traveling from far away too. “Camp is scary because I’m not sure if I will make... --- - Published: 2024-03-22 - Modified: 2026-02-19 - URL: https://www.international-sports.com/meet-the-staff-our-international-sports-exports/ - Categories: Uncategorized With international in the name, we are fortunate to bring in an awesome team of coaches, counselors, and other staff from across the world each summer. Our All Sports and IXTC programs are a mix of team sports and adventure activities, ranging from soccer and rugby to jet skiing and rock climbing. Since we are leading campers through a variety of sports, we are not solely looking for Olympic level athletes to coach, but rather, those who are knowledgeable, passionate, enthusiastic, and patient. So much of the ISTC experience is focused on exploration of sport in a risk-free environment. Our coaches and counselors create this atmosphere through their kind approach to teaching sports, by creating games that are engaging for competitive athletes while still accessible for those who are newer to athletics. All specialized activities such as jet skis, banana boats, mountain bikes, ropes course and zip lines run in the same fashion week after week. Other coveted activities like the Wednesday night dance, Friday evening sports tournament and Friday night silent disco also take place the same way each camp session. Regardless of your dates, the ISTC experience is universal – let’s dive in to a typical day! 7:00-8:00am – Wake Up & Cabin Cleaning Campers and counselors will wake up as a group to prepare for the day. Groups will also be responsible for tidying the cabin during this time. The counselors will tackle the harder tasks like cleaning the toilets, but campers will ensure their beds are made, luggage is neat, and help with keeping the porches organized. This cleaning is part of the weekly cabin-of-the-week competition, which keeps campers motivated while learning skills that carryover to home life. 8:00-9:00am – Breakfast We have three structured meals each day. Cabins are all called in together to go through the hot line, which contains favorites such as waffles, French toast, pancakes, bacon, sausage, eggs, and hashbrowns spread throughout the week. Every day is different, as we rotate campers through a diverse schedule of team sports, lake activities, and high ropes elements - all in just a single week. Despite the diversity, several sports have not only become signature to our programs, but also among our campers' favorites year after year. Let's explore! Jet Ski Our private lake makes our Waterfront the best place to be during the hot summer months. It is home to giant inflatables and boats, but the star of the show is the opportunity to jet ski. Partnered up with one of our lifeguards, all campers regardless of age, are given the chance to tackle the jet ski course on our lake. It stands out as a novel experience, filled with speed and the lake's cool breeze. Banana Boating It's not surprising that two of campers' favorite activities take place at the lake! Similar to jet skiing, banana boating is a new experience for many campers, exclusive to their time at ISTC. Banana boating takes the exhilarating nature of jet ski, and takes it to a different level as campers ride a tube with twists and turns. And more importantly, it's done with friends! Campers tackle this water rollercoaster with a group of 4-5 others, so the excitement is filled with laughs as everyone takes on the bumps and turns. It is nearly impossible to jet ski, rock climb, mountain bike, or play team sports with a frown. Although we place an emphasis on creating memories through sports, another element of our camp experience that is just as important is the family atmosphere we look to create. What do we mean by family atmosphere? We strive to give campers a home away from home – a place where they feel supported by everyone around them and are guided to be the best version of themselves. We want campers to make friends, feel included, and grow confident taking on all the new activities we offer; just as children do around their parents and siblings at home. Why focus on making sports camp feel like family? Making ISTC feel like a family away from home helps the experience feel familiar for campers. Family is associated with feeling appreciated and welcome, so replicating these notions at camp eliminates feelings of homesickness and keeps them excited for everything we offer. How do we create this atmosphere? Our programs are intentionally designed to create this family-style atmosphere. It starts with the cabins, as campers are organized into groups by gender, age, and roommate requests so they are with others like them. This cabin group becomes their home base for the week. Together, they’ll eat meals, take on sports activities and our cabin-of-the-week competitions during recreation times. Although our energetic campers and dedicated staff bring our programs to life each summer, there’s no denying that our beautiful location is part of the summertime magic. Namely, being in the Pocono Mountains creates our community, program, and feeling of escape for our campers. Diverse Community Our location lends itself to a varied community of campers and staff. We are about an hour from the New Jersey border, two hours from Philadelphia, and 90 minutes from New York City. As a result, the ISTC community is a culmination of towns and cities in proximity: Westfield, NJ; Garden City, NY; Media, PA; and even New Canaan, CT to name a few. We are incredibly grateful that being so close to major cities means our international team can get here each summer. Being in the Poconos, we are close to several ski mountains and resorts as well, which translates to high interest from seasonal American staff. The quick answer is that sports are fun; however, the decision to build our programs around them goes beyond just enjoyment. Sports specifically, bring people together through shared experiences, promote healthy habits and emphasize helpful life skills. Bringing People Together All camps strive to help their campers make friends; fortunately, sports and adventure activities do this naturally. Our main programs, All Sports and IXTC, give campers the chance to jet ski, banana boat, rock climb, mountain bike, and play a variety of field sports – all of which are done in a team setting. Campers meet up with this same team, session after session, to tackle each sport together. Sports sessions become the main social opportunity at ISTC, the time where our campers connect and create core memories. Our hope is that after enough shared experiences, campers feel confident in continuing these bonds beyond their sports sessions. Healthy Habits Team sports and adventure activities keep our campers outside in the beautiful Pocono Mountains! There’s no denying that our camp schedule is busy. Campers partake in three 2-hour sports sessions and multiple recreation periods each day, meaning campers are running and swimming all week long! Physical exercise, sunshine, and fresh air help our campers feel their best so they can do their best. Until the 2010’s, we offered sport specific programs like soccer, basketball, and volleyball that focused on skill development. Our current program, All Sports, was also offered during this time and as the name suggests, gives campers the opportunity to play and learn a variety of sports. All Sports and IXTC (its counterpart for teenage campers) focus on training campers to be better people through sports. With a mix of team sports and adventure activities like jet ski, banana boating and rock climbing, we strive to build character and confidence trying new things. Here’s the benefits of our multi-sport program: Accessibility By moving the focus from sports specific development to overall life skills, we can have a wider spectrum of campers experience our programs. From competitive athletes looking for a social escape to kids figuring out what sports interests them most, everyone is welcome regardless of their athletic background. It also means our sports sessions are not limited to skill or gender. We choose to play sports in a co-ed team to give campers a larger social experience. It also promotes our coaching staff to teach sports in an inviting, recreational manner. Every camper may not move onto professional sports, but every camper can benefit from playing team sports in a risk-free environment with others their age. Each year, we bring in staff from England, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Mexico, Colombia, Poland and more to fill various positions across the camp; this season is no different! Their unique perspectives combined with their excitement to teach campers about their culture, makes them a very welcome addition to our programs. Along with our US staff, not only do they keep our atmosphere upbeat, they prepare our campers to excel in a global context. Our staff are older than the industry standard Did you know most of our staff are over the age of 21? We bring in college-aged staff so that they have a better sense of judgement and maturity, but also more experience in their respective fields. Many of our counselors are studying to be teachers and use camp as a way to continue working in youth development. Most coaches have sports management and teaching backgrounds, with a desire to become even more adept. With specialty programs like jet ski, banana boat, ropes course, and mountain biking, having skilled staff is vital to the safety of our programs. Even something as simple as living in a lakeside cabin has transferrable qualities for camper’s everyday lives outside of the camp experience. We’ll explore a few of the most prominent benefits of cabin living in this month’s blog! Campers learn to keep things tidy and clean. Our cabins range in shape and size, but on average, house between 18-20 campers each. As such, daily cleaning is a major priority, to the point where we involve the cabin’s cleanliness score as part of our cabin-of-the-week competition. To get a perfect mark, campers must make their beds, keep their luggage organized, and assist with keeping the rest of the cabin looking clean. Whether this is sweeping, hanging towels and swimsuits on the decks, or lining up shoes on the porch, every camper has a role to play. Our hope is that what becomes routine at camp can become routine at home! Campers learn time management. Routine is the basis of camp! Each day follows an action-packed schedule, to fit the most activities and sports into a one-week session. The time for jet skiing, banana boating, rock climbing, mountain biking, and other sports would be negatively affected if cabins did not move promptly as a group. Adhering to specific times for showering, filling water bottles, and changing clothes is a significant part of the living experience. It becomes second nature to get... --- - Published: 2023-01-20 - Modified: 2023-01-20 - URL: https://www.international-sports.com/how-competitive-is-istc/ - Categories: Uncategorized With “Training” in our camp’s name, we often get the question: How Competitive is ISTC? This answer has changed drastically throughout the years. Before the All Sports and IXTC programs, we previously offered individual sport programs. Soccer, cross country, wrestling, field hockey, baseball, basketball, cheer, and so on each had their own week; with everyone chasing the same goals in these programs, the sports were extremely competitive. Presently, the competitive nature of our sports programs have relaxed significantly given a few changes. Co-Ed Groups While our campers are housed by single gender, their sports groups during the day are co-ed! With everyone playing sports together, our coaches prioritize a balanced approach to sessions. This involves mixing teams of boys and girls, but also scaling activities to all athletic abilities. Sports Sessions are Not Always Team Sports Our recreational atmosphere stems from the types of sports and activities we offer. Specifically, every session is not a field or team-based sport! We jet ski, banana boat, rock climb, zip line, and mountain bike in sports session times. With these adventure activities, we don’t track how quickly campers climb or how fast they complete trails; the true objective is to expose campers to new things and build confidence in these environments. Even with our field sports, the goal is not always to score a goal. Our goal is to focus on the fun and socialization of sports while learning new skills. We want to introduce our campers to new sports like cricket and... --- - Published: 2022-12-13 - Modified: 2022-12-13 - URL: https://www.international-sports.com/bestofistc2022/ - Categories: Uncategorized Each year at ISTC we upgrade our facilities and programs; and 2022 was no exception! This past summer featured several improvements to the camper experience and while we can’t fully announce everything for 2023 just yet, know that it will be an ~adventure~! With the year concluding, we want to reflect on some of the best things from 2022: Snack Shack & Canteen Added a 4th serving line to the Canteen, which reduced wait time for campers looking to get food, drink, and merchandise items. Introduced new menu items, including build your own ice cream sundaes, funnel cake fries, and chicken tenders. Built the Snack Shack, a secondary camp store next to the Waterfront with frozen treats, drinks, and other snack items. Fitness and Weightlifting Gym Moved the gym to the 2nd level of the Arena, allowing All Sports and IXTC to completely take over the 1st floor for dodgeball, floor hockey, and other team-based sports. Opened the gym for recreation time – campers were able to lift under supervision of our training staff! Fieldhouse Replaced the Fieldhouse floor with ISTC branded, all weather, multi-sport surface; the upgraded floor was the perfect match for basketball and our cabin-of-the-week events. Pavilion Added a Pavilion between the Arena and Fieldhouse! This Pavilion served as an additional rain location for teams to continue playing, but also was home to the weekly Zumba classes led by our international staff and some zen yoga classes. Not to mention, it is a beautiful ceremony spot for... --- - Published: 2022-11-29 - Modified: 2022-11-29 - URL: https://www.international-sports.com/use-the-holidays-to-gear-up-for-camp/ - Categories: Uncategorized Every year, families tell us that they enjoy using the holidays as a time to gift items for the ISTC experience. Not only have we made our packing list available for everyone – click here to view – but we want to use this month’s blog to give more detail on how to prepare for camp. Clothing Our All Sports and IXTC programs are a mix of team-based games and outdoor adventure activities. We do not require any specific clothing or uniforms, given the plethora of sports we play. T-shirts, shorts, leggings, and other light clothing that you would wear to play outside in the summertime are perfect; be sure not to bring anything valuable as the lake, mountain bike trails, and ropes course elements can dirty things very quickly. Being in the Pocono Mountains, the weather can get a little chilly in the mornings and nighttime. We recommend at least one sweatshirt as well as a rain jacket and an extra pair of sneakers for when we get wet weather. Items for Everyday Use Most of the day is running, swimming, and cheering but in the few times campers are at their cabins, there are some essential items. Sleeping: Standard twin size bottom sheet to cover our mattress and then your choice of sleeping bag or blankets with a pillow. The cabins have large internal house fans, but no central air conditioning, so a small fan (preferably battery operated) is a welcome addition for warmer nights. Personal Items: Toothbrush,... --- - Published: 2022-10-28 - Modified: 2022-11-09 - URL: https://www.international-sports.com/best-sports-camp-in-the-usa/ - Categories: Uncategorized Labeling ISTC as the best sports camp in the USA is bold, but we feel it is warranted given the way we operate our facility, staff, and activities. We like to say we “specialize in not specializing”, which is a commitment to giving campers a variety of outdoor experiences, without sacrificing the quality of any single sport or activity. Here are the top 3 things that separate ISTC from the competition. 1) Facility ISTC features a private lake, ropes course, adventure trails, grass fields, sport courts, and more – all within a 500 acres property. This landscape not only paints a beautiful picture for campers upon arrival, helping them feel excited about the experience, but truly enables us to play a multitude of activities. Participating in jet ski, banana boat, rock climb, zip line, mountain bike soccer, basketball, volleyball, other team sports and more, are all possible with our facilities! The linear nature of our property also makes moving from one thing to the next simple, keeping the focus on the fun itself. 2) Staff All of the activities we offer would not be as amazing without our staff. Each summer, we recruit coaches and counselors from the US, England, Ireland, Scotland, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Colombia, and more. The combination of unique backgrounds and their love of making a difference with kids, creates a welcoming, excited energy at ISTC. This energy is infectious and allows campers to buy in to the multi-sport programming we offer without any worries. 3)... --- - Published: 2022-09-21 - Modified: 2022-09-21 - URL: https://www.international-sports.com/camp-to-classroom/ - Categories: Uncategorized With summer officially ending, our campers head back to school for academic enrichment. While this seems like it would be drastically different than the playing, swimming, and cheering at ISTC, there are many similarities between camp and school beneath the surface. Namely, the organized structure, social environment, and opportunity to play not only mirror life at school, but experiencing these things at ISTC will help campers succeed in school, too. Structure: ISTC’s daily schedule is filled to the brim with structured sports sessions, free recreation times, and set mealtimes. Our campers are constantly on the move, as they rotate between the waterfront, ropes course, mountain bike trails, and fields for the various sports we offer. Since each session is different each day, we challenge our campers to focus on the activity set forth by their All Sports coaches. Listening to instructions, using the information to play games, and then resetting for the next activity is ingrained into the camp schedule. The ability to retain different types of information is refined through camp and even more valuable in school, as kids move through several subjects each day. Social Environment: There is no better place to connect with all different types of people than ISTC! Camp presents an opportunity to not only live with kids of the appropriate age, but also, gives campers the chance to get to know staff from around the world. We break down social barriers through sports and cabin-of-the-week competitions, with the end goal of helping kids develop... --- - Published: 2022-05-31 - Modified: 2022-05-31 - URL: https://www.international-sports.com/packing-tips-for-summer/ - Categories: Uncategorized With summer on the horizon, we want to highlight our packing list! It is written as a checklist so that it can be used as a resource for when you are actually packing your suitcase or duffel; however, this blog post will provide some context as to why we recommend specific items. Clothing For a single week, be sure to be to pack enough clothes for the entire length of stay! Clothing should light, comfortable, and suited for outdoor play. T-shirts, tank tops, shorts, athletic pants, socks – essentially whatever you like to run around in during the summer months is perfect for camp. Most campers wear a single outfit per day, but having a few extra tops and bottoms is a good idea, given how active our schedule is. And make sure to remember at least two camp appropriate swim suits for all those fun waterfront sessions! Laundry Bag Simply having one dedicated spot for dirty clothes at the end of each day can make a positive difference. Keeping clean and dirty separate allows campers to focus on the fun elements of camp, rather than feeling self-conscious! Fan While our cabins have large internal exhaust fans that keep airflow moving, we still encourage everyone to pack a bedside. All cabins have outlets so a plug in fan would work, although we suggest battery operated or ones with recharge batteries most of all. Having a fan ensures that even on the hottest of summer days, your camper is comfortable in... --- - Published: 2022-04-28 - Modified: 2022-05-02 - URL: https://www.international-sports.com/green-initiatives-at-istc/ - Categories: Uncategorized We are most known for our sports programming and positive atmosphere, but did you know that we place a major emphasis on reducing our environmental footprint? ! Earth Day is the perfect time to reflect on our green initiatives and this month’s blog will detail some of the ways we keep ISTC environmentally conscious. 1) Solar Power We have solar panels on both sides of the camp property to generate power for many of the facilities. Most notably, our Fieldhouse next to our parking lot has had solar panels since 2011. In it’s first 14 months after installation, the 40-kilowatt solar PV system generated 69,239 kw of electricity, which equates to saving roughly 117,000 tons of carbon emission. Now with over a decade of utilizing solar energy, the impact has been monumental. 2) Re-purposing Fallen Trees Being in such a rustic environment, storms unfortunately take down some of the trees on property; however, we are able to make the best of the situation by re-purposing these fallen trees into different wooden pieces on camp. The barn doors in our dining hall, bars for our event season, wedding arbors, and our firewood containers are a few of the best examples. These pieces not only add flair to our building, but also save us from having to use additional resources. 3) Facility Amenities From switching all of our lightbulbs to LED’s, to using house fans over air conditioning in our cabins to keep things cool, we’ve implemented several things to limit our... --- - Published: 2022-02-18 - Modified: 2022-02-18 - URL: https://www.international-sports.com/best-tips-for-nervous-campers-and-parents/ - Categories: Uncategorized A week at ISTC means new friends, tons of sports, and opportunities to create memories that last a lifetime; however, we know it can be initially nerve wrecking to take a step into the unknown. Our goal is to build positive camp experiences for all campers, so that they can build life skills and simply have fun being a kid. This month’s blog focuses on our best tips to beat any nerves, which will allow campers to flourish in our All Sports and IXTC programs. Familiarize with all things ISTC If you are only able to do one thing to prepare for the upcoming summer, we’d recommend learning all about ISTC. Campers who have an accurate idea of the experience are able to create proper expectations and avoid feeling blindsided. Watch our videos, take the virtual tour, or even work with our office to come out for a physical tour, as feeling comfortable with the camp environment can make all the difference. Not to mention, we post a variety of content on Facebook and Instagram for a true inside look at all things ISTC. Be honest about the expectation for communicating with home Since the week at ISTC is filled to the brim with all kinds of outdoor sports, we do not have specific times for campers to make and receive calls. Being honest about this lack of communication is important, as coming in with false hope can be detrimental. Parents and family can follow along from home through our... --- - Published: 2022-01-20 - Modified: 2022-01-20 - URL: https://www.international-sports.com/exploring-istc/ - Categories: Uncategorized Some of our families refer to ISTC as a country club for kids, which is a fair assessment given the amount of activities and space for our sports programs! This blog post provides an overview of our facility and dives into some key points about many of the major locations. Overview: The map above depicts the entire 500-acre property at ISTC! The lake, sports facilities, and cabins are all considered part of our private property, giving the ISTC experience an exclusive feel. Most buildings and activity spots can be accessed via the long, pavement path that stretches the majority of camp, which makes progressing through the daily schedule easy. Cabins: While our cabins (buildings 1-15 on the map) span the property in various locations, they each contain the same amenities. The bunk beds, mattresses, and other furniture are consistent from cabin to cabin; each has their own indoor bathrooms, sinks and showers. Their sizes vary from 15-25 total beds, meaning small groups of friends can stick together while also meeting new people. Sports Areas: All programming is done onsite, meaning campers will truly explore most of the facility during their time at ISTC. The Waterfront (WF) includes the jet skiing, banana boating, and other inflatables. The Ropes Course (RC) involves the climbing tower, zip line, and giant swing elements. Mountain Biking (MTB) starts at the pavilion but then branches off to different areas around the property. And in between all of these things, campers will have sports sessions at either... --- - Published: 2021-12-18 - Modified: 2021-12-18 - URL: https://www.international-sports.com/what-is-the-perfect-age-for-camp/ - Categories: Uncategorized What is the ideal age to begin sending my child to camp? Some families fear that sending their young camper away may set them up for a week of stress and homesickness. Alternatively, other families feel that starting too late means their older camper is too mature to buy into the camp experience. With these different opinions in mind, is there actually a sweet spot for starting camp? The short answer to this question is... no! We firmly believe that ISTC is accessible for campers of all ages looking for the experience of a lifetime; however, there are several advantages in starting young! By attending ISTC at a young age, campers establish social skills that will help them in school, sports, and other areas. Living in a cabin amongst their peers and playing sports in a team environment encourages campers to take an active role within a group. From multiple sports sessions a day with their All Sports team to “cabin-of-the-week competitions” with their cabins, campers have consistent, shared experiences with those around them. Through these various activities, we help campers gain the confidence to thrive in a social setting. Living away from home at a young age also increases independence. Settling into a cabin with new faces presents opportunities to build friendships, but also, tasks campers with responsibility in advocating for themselves. During the ISTC experience, campers manage their own canteen spending accounts, pick their recreation activities, and keep their living areas tidy. Our counselors actively help with these... --- - Published: 2021-11-23 - Modified: 2021-11-23 - URL: https://www.international-sports.com/why-repeated-years-at-istc-are-awesome/ - Categories: Uncategorized The return to reality after a week of camp can be emotional for many first year campers. They’ve just finished the experience of a lifetime, only to return to a seemingly mundane schedule followed by the start of school. This fall from paradise is often referred to as the “post-camp blues”; however, these campers are now in the exciting position to experience ISTC as a returner. Campers who loved their time can return without any of the jitters that may have impacted their first experience at ISTC. With a newfound confidence and familiarity of the facility, the schedule, and what it’s like living away from home, they are able to jump back into the action immediately. This perspective lets them focus on reconnecting with friends, getting to know their counselors and coaches, and revisiting their favorite activities without being tied down by uncertainty. Teaching life skills through sports is our ultimate goal, and creating friendships is definitely part of it. Coming back to camp presents an opportunity to bond with the friends made, but also a chance to meet new faces. Continuously building on this network year to year creates a true sense of belonging within the ISTC community, and countless memories along the way. Returning to camp also lets campers revisit our signature activities like jet skiing, banana boating, ropes course, zip line, and mountain biking. Simply getting to partake in these types of activities again is awesome, as they aren’t too common for many of our campers, but... --- - Published: 2021-10-21 - Modified: 2021-10-21 - URL: https://www.international-sports.com/how-to-prepare-your-kiddo-for-summer-camp/ - Categories: Uncategorized Being registered for the upcoming summer at this point in the year traditionally means campers are over the moon excited for the experience to come; however, we also know that new or distant experiences can be met with a bit of uncertainty as well. This month’s blog post will be focused on helping campers mentally prepare for the good times to come! Familiarize Going in blind to any situation can be tough, so we recommend campers familiarize themselves with all things ISTC as much as possible leading up to the summertime. Our website hosts several resources to help illustrate the ISTC experience; a few of our favorites are the “Welcome to ISTC” video and the Virtual Tour. Learning more about our programs can help answer any questions, but also seeing previous campers have the time of their life can show them that they, too, will have fun. Ownership If campers feel they are being forced into camp, it can be met with adversity so giving campers opportunity to own the experience is an important step in promoting a positive attitude toward ISTC. One example of this notion is allowing campers to tell extended family, friends, and teachers directly that they’ll be going to camp. This way, they’ll be excited to share their upcoming experience instead of seeing it as something that has been planned for them. Another way to give campers ownership is to involve them in the preparation. From shopping for things off of our packing list together or... --- - Published: 2021-09-20 - Modified: 2022-01-07 - URL: https://www.international-sports.com/5-reasons-why-istc-was-the-antidote-this-summer/ - Categories: Uncategorized As a sports-based summer camp, bringing people together is intrinsic to what we do. While promoting community during this time of distancing can be seen as an interesting choice, the benefits and takeaways from our programming were invaluable. This blog will talk through the top 5 reasons why the ISTC experience was essential for our campers this summer: Build Friendships: With school, sports, and other social outlets for kids altered in some fashion this past year, providing a safe outlet for our campers to connect was more important than ever. Building friends through shared experiences like jet skiing, rock climbing, and cabin of the week competitions fills the void from the year. ISTC continues to be a place where kids can meet and play with others who are like minded. Promote Physical Activity: From swimming and biking to soccer and basketball, our campers are encouraged to play a variety of different sports. While our main program is named All Sports, meaning we don’t specialize in anything in particular, we specialize in getting campers to move, play, and explore in ways they never considered. After months of sedentary activity, providing a routine for kids to play was essential in getting things to feel normal. Provide a Break from Technology: ISTC has always been a technology free experience, since we encourage our campers to take advantage of the camp environment for the limited time they are here. Removing technology not only helps campers focus on the sports and friends around them, but... --- - Published: 2021-05-27 - Modified: 2025-11-18 - URL: https://www.international-sports.com/5-tips-for-getting-ready-for-summer/ - Categories: Uncategorized We are more excited than ever for everyone to be back at International Sports Camp located in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. Whether you are a returning veteran or joining us for the first time, these tips will help you feel ready and confident for the experience to come. 1) Packing: A successful week starts with the things you bring! We have a full packing list included in our preparing for camp guide. A few things to emphasize would be a re-usable water bottle, a mesh laundry bag for the cabin, a drawstring bag for sports sessions, and multiple masks for this year only. 2) Canteen: We have a camp store (which we call the canteen) with snacks and merchandise that opens each recreation period. Families are able to pre-pay an account that campers can spend from during the week, which is one less thing to worry about on check-in day. The canteen’s options are definitely made for the kids in mind: French fries, pizza, hot pretzels, ice cream, etc. so it is a favorite spot to hang out with friends. 3) Familiarize: Moving into a new environment for the week can be scary for some, so becoming more familiar with the different spots around camp can help. We offer in person tours by appointment but also, have a full virtual tour for those interested in seeing more of ISTC. Further, we have an “At Camp” Guide, which focuses on a day in the life information at camp – everything... --- - Published: 2021-04-01 - Modified: 2021-05-17 - URL: https://www.international-sports.com/our-favorite-summer-activities-at-istc/ - Categories: Uncategorized, ISTC Identifying our favorite camp activities is like asking a parent to pick their favorite child. It depends on the day... kidding! All of the sports, activities, and moments we offer bring a special energy to the ISTC experience. Without everything coming together, camp simply wouldn’t feel like camp, so this summer, we are looking forward to doing all of our favorite things. Traditional Sports: Our All Sports program lives up to its name! We love to play soccer, basketball, flag football, ultimate Frisbee, and other field and court-based sports. We especially enjoy how our coaching staff makes these sports approachable and fun to all of our campers, even those without heavy sports backgrounds. Adventure Sports: Aside from traditional sports, we enjoy introducing campers to jet skiing, banana boating, rock climbing, zip lining, and mountain biking. Each of these activities is built into our programs! Not only are they exciting, but they encourage our campers to expand their comfort zones and try new things. Signature Meals: We are fortunate that our chefs are part of our full-time team, meaning the crew that cooks for our weddings and special events at Trout Lake also cook for camp. Our team also has experience with gluten free and other dietary needs options. Some of our signature meals like Wednesday Cookouts and Pizza Thursdays redefine the expectations for camp dining and bring a smile to everyone all summer, making them some of our favorites. Each winter, we explore program additions, hire staff, improve our facilities, keep our grounds beautiful and so much more; however, one thing that families may not know as part of that list is maintaining our accreditation with the American Camp Association (ACA). The ACA is the national community for camp professionals, devoted to ensuring the quality of summer camp programs. Although the ACA consists of different types of camps from all over the US, we all share one common goal – to enrich the lives of children and their families through camp. As such, the ACA developed a series of standards for camps to hold themselves and each other accountable to. They cover all aspects of camp, ranging from program upkeep to health and safety. By opening your program and admin to this review, it is a commitment to these standards and further, obtaining this accreditation means that a camp meets the expectations set forth by the camp community at large. We are proud to say that we are an ACA accredited camp, and that our Camp Director, Mark, serves on the Keystone Board. Maintaining this membership and being active in the ACA, lets our families know that their children’s safety, well-being, and enjoyment will always be our top priorities. It also gives us access to a network of information to better our programs. Last month’s blog covered many of the physical changes ISTC has seen over the decades. However, this special milestone is much more than celebrating new buildings and program additions. Our anniversary summer marks three decades of teaching life skills through sports and building more resilient children through camp! Our current All Sports and IXTC programs intentionally introduce campers to a variety of different sports and outdoor activities with this purpose in mind. Soccer, basketball, jet ski, ropes course, mountain biking and many more have become signatures at ISTC. Despite moving from one thing to another, we are able to keep things like sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect for one other consistent. Without realizing, our campers repeatedly practice these positive qualities without ever practicing the same sport twice. We also use traditional camp elements as a part of our programs to help our campers grow. Giving campers scheduled time to explore, connect with each other, and try new things is essential for helping them unlock their full potential. Whether it is coming together with their cabin to take on group lip sync or jumping into things like the Silent Disco during recreation times, being with others builds shared experiences and friendships. While the goal of building life skills through sports remains unchanged, our facilities and program have been finely remodeled over the years. Join us on this trip down memory lane, as we look at a bunch of the specific changes to ISTC! DCIM100MEDIADJI_0055. JPG When ISTC began in 1991, we previously offered sport specific weeks. For example, Week 1 would be wrestling, week 2 would be cross-country, and our signature All Sports Program was simply one of the summer options. Year after year, the popularity for the All Sports week continued to grow – to the point where it became our foundation. The multi-sport program with traditional camp recreation activities that our families know and love continues to see tweaks each summer, but it’s roots draw back to the very beginning. DCIM100MEDIADJI_0088. JPG While 1100 Twin Lake Road has always been home for ISTC, all of the individual buildings and facilities have been renovated in some capacity. Starting with one of the first buildings families see coming through the parking lot (which has only been paved in the last couple years), our Fieldhouse has seen several changes. To name a few, we’ve built and painted walls, added solar panels, and involved our 10-year camper bricks into its main path. With this year becoming more online than ever before, creating time away from screens, phones, video games, and other devices is just as vital. ISTC is and always will remain technology free and here’s why we think our families should make time for it, too. Time away from technology: Promotes inter-personal relationships Creates distance from hometown drama Places a focus on sports and other hobbies Encourages physical activity By removing technology from the ISTC experience, we help our campers build friendships and conversational skills. Without having to look down at a screen during sports sessions or recreation times, our campers can simply enjoy connecting with those around them in a more authentic way. Eye contact, listening, and being in the moment with others encourages genuine friendships, but are also great skills for school, work, and life beyond camp. Disconnecting from technology also allows our campers to distance themselves from stressful situations. By letting go of the cell phone at camp, the barrage of messages on social media gets put on hold. During the ISTC experience; our campers can truly give the camp environment their undivided attention. Unplugging gives our campers time to be themselves and as a result, more independent. Implementing a small window each day at home can help promote similar feelings of identity and escape. Whether you are directly involved with our campers, or keeping things organized behind the scenes, everyone plays a major role in improving our campers’ lives and in turn, betters him or herself as a result. While counselors, coaches, lifeguards, ropes course, and mountain biking staff have the most direct contact given their involvement with our campers, opportunities to get involved at ISTC extend beyond working directly with kids. Nurses, athletic trainers, site and facility workers, culinary assistants, office administrators, photographers and more make up the ISTC staff family. Not only can these positions supplement full-time employment during the summer months, they also present a unique opportunity to work in a non-traditional business environment and gain experience in the outdoor recreation industry. For more information on all of the positions we look for each summer, we invite you check out our website. Improved inter-personal, organizational, and self-awareness skills are a few of the most prominent takeaways from working at ISTC. Regardless of the role, every staff member is tasked with keeping others updated on situations, providing feedback, and giving instructions, and during a midweek clinic led by an alumnus now managing analytics at NHL betting sites they practice turning game notes into clear briefings. Each year, we partner with international agencies and even fly across the world to bring in passionate individuals to become our coaches, counselors, and so much more. To put it frankly, we cannot be International Sports Training Camp without our international staff. On June 22, 2020, the White House issued a proclamation suspending some J-1 visas effective June 24 through December 31, 2020, with the possibility of continuation. As many of our staff members use the J-1 visa to be a part of our camp community each year, we hope you will join us in the effort to remove international exchange programs from the proclamation come next year. Here’s why our international staff are so vital to what we do: International staff members are among the world’s best and brightest. They bring a unique perspective to our campers and programs. International coaches and counselors bring diversity to our outdoor sports programs and prepare our campers to excel in global contexts. Plus, the different accents, stories, and sports they bring with them are what makes them so special. J-1 Exchange Visitor Program staff fill our unique industry needs. They help keep our camp and many others across the United States open and operating, while also bridging the workforce gap so we can provide for American full time and seasonal jobs. Dr. Tina Payne Bryson: “Helping our Kids Manage Disappointment Over Cancelled Camp & Summer Plans” Grieving The Loss of Camp Childmind. org: Supporting Kids During the Coronavirus Crisis Childrens. com: 4 Tips for Coping with Disappointment during COVID-19 Each of the materials above ultimately emphasizes letting campers be honest with their feelings, keeping active, and staying in touch with others. Dr. Bryson identifies that the difference between a difficult situation having a detrimental impact in the long run versus serving as a learning experience, comes from the support system beside them. As parents and camp people, we must give children a safe outlet to talk about their feelings openly, without any worry they will be corrected or criticized for doing so. Simply listening and being present is enough and campers will look back on this time, remembering that you were there for them above all else. As an outdoor sports program, we will always advocate for our campers to stay active. Not only does it help campers feel accomplished during the day, staying on the move also serves as a positive distraction from the situation at large. Monday: Motivation Monday includes a piece of knowledge from our Assistant Director Ed. Our goal is always to teach life skills through sports and Ed’s insight each week is a reminder of the power we all possess to do great things! Tuesday: Tuesdays are for Trivia with Tanya! Wednesday: Both our All Sports and IXTC programs are all about disconnecting and enjoying outdoor sports; it’s only fitting that one-day of our week is dedicated to this notion. Workout Wednesday with Mariah is a call to action to move! Mariah walks everyone through low stress, minimal equipment workouts to help everyone shake off a bit of the cabin fever. Not only do they offer campers an awesome experience, but they also help our end goal of building life skills through sports. Namely, adventure sports like the ones we offer expose campers to something unique, instill confidence in trying new things, and encourage supportive attitudes. Each activity is integrated into the week’s organized sessions with our coaching staff, alleviating any pressure to dive into the unknown. Safety is always the top priority as well, especially when supporting campers to trying things for the first time. Certified staff are on the every jet ski, ropes staff belays every climber on the course, and mountain biking rides are guided by our team. Because of this structure, campers are given the chance to tackle these adventure sports in a risk-free environment. We use the phrase “challenge by choice” with our coaching staff to set the uplifting atmosphere we strive for. Our team will actively encourage and support every camper to give each activity a try, although we know progress may look different for everyone – and that’s okay! We understand that campers need both delicious and healthy food to have the energy needed to enjoy our sporty schedule. In turn, our Food Service Team heavily prioritizes making sure dining is safe and enjoyable for everyone. Prevention is a major part of our allergy plan. We eliminate more widespread allergies like nuts, peanuts, and nut based oils to provide peace of mind for campers and families. This is not only consistent with our dining hall meals, but also with our canteen food as well. Specifically, the canteen features a fryer that is used exclusively for gluten free French fries as well as dairy free soft serve. Our chefs have gone through extensive training to ensure our camp cuisine is safe for everyone. They are certified through the National Restaurant Association in a variety of specializations. Namely, they have earned certificates in the ServSafe Allergen and Allertrain Lite programs, which are designed at helping food service staff deliver safe meals for those with dietary needs. They have also completed the Beyond Celiac concentration to better serve gluten free meals and eliminate cross contamination. Not only do we look at age and friend requests to make informed choices for our campers, but also, we intentionally use co-ed sports teams to develop an inclusive, feel good environment where they can make more friends besides cabin mates. Many campers that come to ISTC are competitive athletes, kids who love to live and breathe sports. Rather than giving campers more of what they already experience in their high-pressure team environments at home, we strive to give them something unique – an experience focused purely on having fun on the field. Making our sports groups co-ed only emphasizes this notion, as it eliminates any chance of our sports groups resembling their competitive outlets at home. Having boys and girls of the same age play sports together further rids the idea that certain activities are prescribed for a specific gender. Each of our co-ed sports groups follow a structured schedule, which cycles through field sports like flag-football and court sports like basketball, as well as adventure sports like jet skiing, mountain biking, and rock climbing. Every camper has every activity built into his or her weekly schedule, which gives them the chance to play sports they may not be naturally inclined to and more so, creates potential to discover new interests. Most campers leave with a greater appreciation for teamwork and communication, but the one thing that is universal for everyone is an increase in self-confidence. Everyone does their best when they feel their best, and our All-Sports and IXTC programs are built around this notion. By putting an emphasis on building our campers’ confidence through sports, we positively influence their experiences at camp and beyond. We’ve structured our programs to focus on a variety of sports throughout the week to keep things fresh for campers, but more so, build their willingness to step outside of their comfort zones and try new things. We organize our cabins so that our campers meet and live with new people, with the end goal of strengthening their abilities to advocate for themselves and trust others. Everything from our sports sessions to our recreation events is intentional, ultimately focused on helping campers unlock a new sense of confidence in a risk-free environment. ISTC builds self-confidence, but further, confidence in others. For many, camp is the first time living away from home and putting faith in anyone aside from parents. Our coaches, counselors, and leadership are the support system for campers during their experience. The constant cheering, high fives, and time taken to connect with campers creates an upbeat atmosphere at ISTC like no other and reinforces the idea that there are others who truly care about their wellbeing and success.... --- - Published: 2019-11-15 - Modified: 2025-10-20 - URL: https://www.international-sports.com/attending-international-summer-camp-promotes-personal-growth/ - Categories: ISTC This past summer, ISTC was home to campers and staff from a combined 22 different countries. Beyond the accents and funny differences in vocabulary, we take pride in our international atmosphere since it influences our campers and opens up the world to them. Specifically, having our campers live and connect with those from different countries and backgrounds helps normalize differences. For many, it’s their first time meeting someone from outside the United States—the accents, meals, and customs can feel entirely new. During orientation, we sometimes use real-world examples of how cultures balance freedom and structure—like referencing regulated entertainment models such as casino zonder cruks in the Netherlands—to spark discussion about responsibility and choice across societies. The goal isn’t to make everyone think or act the same way, but to help them appreciate what makes each perspective valuable. Jet ski, ropes course, and mountain bike may be integral to any traditional camp experience; sports like cricket, touch rugby, Aussie rules football, and Gaelic football are authentic to our international staff. Our All Sports and IXTC programs are designed with a varied approach to keep things exciting from session to session, but further, to ignite new interests and promote curiosity in our campers. Whether it’s simply asking our coaches questions about a game like rugby after playing or getting fully immersed in the sport outside of ISTC, international sports serve as a catalyst to teach our campers life skills through sports. We choose to focus our All Sports and IXTC programs on all different types of sports, not only because they are incredibly fun, but they also help to build grit and offer transferrable lessons for other aspects of life. One of the many reasons sports are so successful in teaching life skills stems from the team environment they promote. Specifically, being a part of a team encourages our campers to commit to something beyond their individual benefit. To succeed in any game, campers naturally do what’s best for the group versus what is best for them in that moment. These repeated experiences of doing what’s best for the team and those around them builds selflessness, a valuable trait for helping others and growing more emotionally intelligent. Sports further instill respect – respect for rules and achievement. From not being able to use your hands in soccer to needing to dribble in basketball, each game has a unique set of standards to follow in order to succeed. This notion of following rules to flourish is perfected by playing different types of sports, and appears in school and work to name a few. Winning and playing well does not simply come from following the rules though; becoming great in anything, and sports in particular, derives from practice. Those who play sports build dedication and a greater understanding of what it means to work hard. Additionally, athletes appreciate those who succeed... --- - Published: 2019-09-13 - Modified: 2020-05-20 - URL: https://www.international-sports.com/campers-better-school/ - Categories: ISTC “What did you do during the summer months? ” Teachers ask this question every September to not only see if their students have done something exciting, but also to learn if they had done anything to prepare for the school year to come. Fortunately, when our campers mention they had spent time at ISTC during the summers, they hit both points of interest. From adhering to routine to becoming more confident individuals, camp truly prepares children to become more successful students in the classroom. ISTC operates a busy schedule – no doubt! With multiple, varied sports sessions, recreation times, and meals each day, our campers are constantly on the move. This level of activity allows our campers to make the most of their time with us, but more so keeps their minds sharp. They avoid the summertime trap of brains turning to mush since they are spending time away from their phones and playing sports in an organized environment. ISTC campers also establish a better sense of self during their experience, which allows them to participate more in the classroom. By being part of a larger group, whether it is a cabin or sports team, our campers are tasked with finding their voice and making connections in a new place. We encourage families to explore our first-time camper guide, as it explains the daily schedule, living arrangements, and more. We also recommend giving your campers ownership of the camp experience where possible, to allow them to get acclimated to the idea of camp. The sessions place an added emphasis on free choice and recreation, allowing campers to revisit their favorite activities from the week. Both Friday and Saturday feature a waterfront session to start the afternoon, followed by camper’s choice where everything becomes available, including the ropes course, mountain bikes, archery range, and field house sports. Tubing, an activity not included in the All-Sports schedule, is also an option for sign up using canteen money. The evening sessions feature the signature weekend activities. What does each of these statuses mean and how can we work around sessions that have reached capacity? In this post, we break down everything registration to help you organize this summer! Available: Whenever a week is marked as available, it means the session is not at risk of closing out just yet. Available translates to plenty of space and the session can be enrolled in at any given point. Limited: As registrations come in throughout the year, we update our website daily to reflect the status of each week. When a week moves from available to limited, it signifies that we are in our final percentage of spaces left for the given session. Specifically, we mark a week as limited when we reach our last 25 beds in hopes of giving advanced notice. If you are considering registering for a limited session or have friends looking to join you in this week, we recommend doing it as soon as possible. Waitlisted: Limited weeks will eventually hit their capacity and will no longer be available for immediate registration. When this happens, the website will change from limited to waitlisted. Now, Thanksgiving is the single occasion during the year where everyone comes together to cherish their bonds and continue traditions. Camp at ISTC mirrors this experience! For portions of the summer each year, our campers embark on a trip away from home to spend time at ISTC. Whether they are simply driving across the PA state border or flying internationally, campers are leaving the familiar behind to start a weeklong adventure. Once arrived, both first-time and returning campers are greeted by new people in a distinct environment. Our new campers may be away from home for the very first time and returners are most likely in a disparate cabin compared to the previous summer. Regardless of the background, everyone is tasked with becoming comfortable in the initially uncomfortable, and this common starting place helps bring our campers and staff together. ISTC activity and tradition strive to help campers in this goal. Year after year, we build our programs on variety; we introduce our campers to a multitude of sports and activities to create new opportunity and interests. Everyone’s number is different. Mine is 1100. To most it is simply just a number, but to me it is home. 1100 is a place filled with people and friends who have helped build the magic inside the gates of camp. You never realize how amazing something is until it’s just about gone. You never comprehend how much of an impact people can have on your life until they are not around anymore to teach you the most important of life lessons. I did not think about these things until recently, when I was faced with the reality that friends who I have grown up with every summer might be too old to return. I struggled thinking about how I will soon be too old as well and will have to let go of the places and people I cherish the most. My time at this magical place has grown shorter and soon, this place will no longer be a place I go to, but instead it will be a place I came to. The number 1100 holds numerous lifelong friends, 24 cedar sided lake front cabins, one 100-acre lake, all surrounded by a multitude of activities. 1100 would not be the same without the amazing staff members, and the many friends that make it so meaningful for me. Campers who choose to come to camp for this week get to enjoy an amazing time filled with celebration, fun and fireworks. We love seeing our staff and international campers celebrate this most American of holidays with us. For many, it’s their first time in the States, and they throw themselves into the fun—from costumes to face painting. Midway through the day, a group organized a campwide prediction game, borrowing ideas from Georgia betting apps to guess which team would win the sack races—a harmless bit of competition that had everyone cheering. It’s that mix of energy and creativity that makes the celebration unforgettable each year. Our highlight of the week is a professional fireworks display over the lake. Campers enjoy a lakeside dance party in the evening, and as the sun sets, they settle in for a front-row view of the stunning light show. Nothing beats sitting lakeside with your camp friends watching the fireworks reflect over our perfect lake. The 4th of July just wouldn't be the same without some amazing food, and our food service team has that covered! Everyone gathers together for the traditional meal of hamburgers, hot dogs, delicious sides, fresh fruit, desserts and ice cold drinks. New for summer 2018, we are happy to introduce a variety of new items to our Waterfront. We have rebuilt our docks to ensure we have strong foundation for years to come. With plenty of kid friendly food options, ISTC merchandise, and a hangout environment, the canteen plays a major role in every camper’s experience. The canteen runs directly out of our Boathouse, which is at the center of camp overlooking the Waterfront. With plenty of outdoor furniture to enjoy the view, the canteen quickly becomes a favorite spot to grab something to eat and relax with friends. Each day, the canteen opens in the afternoon from 1:00-3:00pm and again in the evening from 8:30pm-10:00pm. Campers can come and go to any of the three serving windows as they please since the canteen is only one of the many things that opens during our recreation sessions. The snacks and desserts offered through the canteen make it the ideal spot for campers to visit mid afternoon and in the evening. From things like chocolate milk and fruit to more camp favorite items like french fries, pizza, and gelato, the canteen has a little something for everyone. We also offer a variety of souvenir and clothing items for campers who want to leave ISTC with a bit of camp. With new designs each season, the pinnies, hoodies, t-shirts, and long-sleeves are great for showing camp spirit during sports sessions and chilly nights. Other popular items include ISTC playing cards, beach towels, and tote bags. Each team has a unique schedule to follow, and every team does every activity just at different day or time during the week. The All-Sports teams come together three times a day and we call these times sports sessions. Can you send me a daily schedule? Look no further, as we breakdown a day in the life at ISTC. Each day at ISTC is an upbeat, outdoor experience filled with meals, sports sessions, and recreation times. Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included everyday at 8:00am, 12:00pm, and 5:00pm respectively. Our kitchen team provides a wholesome menu at every meal to make sure campers have the fuel to play sports all day long. We are entirely nut-free and cater to a variety of dietary needs, including Celiac. Cabins and counselors sit together to build on friendships and avoid any worries about where to sit. Sports Sessions: Every camper is a part of an All-Sports team, which is co-ed and led by two of our coaching staff. With three sessions each day and each centered on a different activity, campers are constantly trying new things and discovering interests. They could be anything from more traditional sports such as soccer, lacrosse, or basketball to more adventure sports including rock climbing, jet skiing, and mountain biking. You’ll hear several accents in the mix, and when you come back for checkout later in the week, you’ll hear amazing stories of your camper’s favorite coaches and counselors. How exactly did all these international staff members come to work at ISTC? It all starts with our hiring process. Our staff is selected from around the world because you simply cannot have International Sports Training Camp without international staff. More importantly, having staff from different countries provides our campers with fresh experiences and introduces them to new cultures. For any position at camp, it is a prerequisite to enjoy working with kids, show responsibility and have teaching or coaching experience. In addition, we truly look for people who radiate passion and character. We strive to encourage campers to be themselves, and we cannot do that unless our staff does the same. Confidence, generosity, creativity, and hilariousness – anything that distinguishes someone as a unique role model for our campers is really what makes an ISTC staff member. Each year, our directors travel to several countries and physically meet with everyone who is interested in working at ISTC through job fairs. After a detailed interview and background check process, we build a team of international staff ready to tackle the summer to come. Our American staff goes through a similar process and many of them attended ISTC as campers. New clothes, phones, and video games all provide an immediate solution, but in a year, the items no longer fit, lose their quality, or are outdated by the next best thing. Consider giving the gift of camp this holiday season. When you gift camp, you are giving more than a weeklong sports experience. You are giving your child an experience where they build lifelong friendships and learn timeless values. Playing sports and building friendships are only part of the ISTC experience. Our main goal is to teach campers life skills through sports. We strive to give campers shared experiences and a comfortable space to be themselves. All weeklong, campers are in their groups playing, laughing, talking, eating and experiencing everything we have to offer without any outside pressures. Living away from home, meeting new people, and trying different activities are all steps in becoming a more confident, open-minded individual. Even the small things that become routine while at ISTC such as making their bed, cleaning up dishes after meal time, and high-fiving everyone, translate back to life at home in a positive way. Our objective in our camp culture is to create an environment where campers are able to be the best versions of themselves. Consider giving the gift of camp this holiday season. You simply cannot put a price on sports, friends, and learning life lessons. --- - Published: 2017-10-16 - Modified: 2020-05-20 - URL: https://www.international-sports.com/istc-camp-researcher/ - Categories: ISTC, News The staff are the cornerstone of everything we do at ISTC. For three months of the year, they cheer, dance, laugh, and do everything in between to make sure our campers have a fabulous time. The rest of the year, they are back home teaching, coaching, or doing something else entirely different from camp; however, one staff member has taken her ISTC experiences to dive further into the camp world. Tors, a long time coach and athletic director at ISTC, is now at the University of Utah to pursue her doctorate degree and her research is entirely camp focused! Throughout her summers, she interviewed and collected data from ISTC campers, CIT's, coaches, counselors, and members of the leadership team to see the different variables that contributed to positive youth development at our sports camp. Campers often say that you just need to be here to experience it but Tors' research identifies and validates the aspects of camp that promote beneficial outcomes for everyone involved. Recently, she has become a research assistant for the American Camp Association (ACA), which is the overarching body that sets the standard for camps. ISTC is an ACA accredited camp and her work will only give camp directors and leaders opportunities to better camp programming for all campers. It's incredible to see one of our own making a difference for ISTC and camps around the country; take a look at her journey at ISTC and beyond in this ACA Research 360 blog. --- - Published: 2017-09-15 - Modified: 2020-05-20 - URL: https://www.international-sports.com/camp-to-campus/ - Categories: ISTC Moving into a college dorm room is much like moving into a cabin at ISTC. You enter a cozy space with a bunch of brand new faces, ready to tackle all of the excitement to come. In college, you are responsible for your social interactions, expected to work in groups, and most notably, now live away from your parents. These things are nothingnew to you since you have actually done all of it before at camp. At ISTC, we don’t lecture like college professors or have reading seminars focused on developing confidence, creativity, and organization. All of our campers unlock these qualities through first-hand experience. By living without cell phones during their week at camp, campers prioritize interpersonal communication skills. Playing and competing in games reinforces the concepts of cooperation, respect, and dedication to a cause. Getting involved in recreation time or simply choosing what to eat in the dining hall are small steps toward making sensible decisions. Creating bonds with people in the cabin and sports group drives home the idea of genuine friendship. All of the things that become second nature at ISTC prove to be truly important qualities moving into college. Learning life skills happens at ISTC because of the environment that we create. From packing tips to an overview of the Sunday check-in process, this blog will give you the insider’s perspective on all things ISTC. Packing Tips and Tricks Here are some recommendations that truly enhance the cabin living experience: 1) Battery Operated Fan - These fans are easy to pack, can be placed anywhere, and typically have clips that can attach to the frame of our bunks. 2) Mesh Laundry Bag - A cheap and simple way to help your camper keep dirty clothes separated from clean items. 3) Multiple Towels - A towel for showering and one for the Waterfront is definitely recommended. Showering with a sandy towel is not on our list of activities for the week! 4) Multiple Shoes - Although all campers must wear sneakers to sports sessions, having a pair of sandals, flip flops, or slides for the Waterfront and down times can keep things comfortable. It also helps to have a second pair of sneakers for unexpected rain. 5) Camera - ISTC is all about creating life-long memories! These extra days at the end of the week are centered on recreation time, meaning all of ISTC’s most signature activities open for campers to pick and choose what they would like to do. Many campers discover something they love at ISTC during the week, and these free choice sessions are perfect to revisit activities and connect with those outside their cabin and sports group. We offer exclusive activities to campers who stay through the weekend as well. Tubing, typically reserved for our IXTC campers, becomes available to all campers who wish to sign up at the canteen. Afternoons include free treats from the canteen like cotton candy and funnel cake, while Friday evenings feature shows from outside performers and Saturday nights feature an outdoor movie at our waterfront. Campers love the relaxed atmosphere of the weekends. They have the opportunity to build on friendships from the week, continue trying new activities, and enjoy special all-camp events. Whether they were a first-time camper or coming back for their seventh summer straight, here is what they said made them fall in love with ISTC. 1) Getting To Know So Many People One of the most common comments campers write is that they loved making new friends. Our hope is that a camper’s cabin mates, sports team, counselors, and coaches become his/her family away from home. Spending such close time with other kids forms a shared bond that leads toward long-term friendship beyond the week at ISTC. 2) The Staff Campers overwhelmingly say that it is the staff that make ISTC so special. Counselors and coaches create a positive environment and inspire campers to be the best they can. They are always keeping things fun and most importantly, making campers feel comfortable and happy while at ISTC. 3) Sports! At ISTC, we play sports, but we also make intentional efforts to integrate fun with learning. Our program purposefully introduces campers to a different sport each session so that things stay exciting. Our staff is consistently upbeat and true to themselves in hopes of our campers following suit. The phrase “New Year, New You” riddles the Internet, only adding to the overwhelming pressure to change. We face a similar reality at ISTC. Many campers believe they need to transform into a super athlete to enjoy the sports camp experience. The truth is – anyone can become an athlete. It’s just a matter of placing yourself in the best environment to grow. At ISTC, we understand that budding athletes are fragile. They have potential to develop into something great as long as they are given positive reinforcement in a healthy environment. This year is the time for “New Year, Better You” and any of our overnight programs are ideal places to start becoming a better you. We believe that people become their best when they feel their best. One of our seven-year campers, Rose Genstein, described ISTC as her special place tucked away in the mountains and truly illustrated what our camp means to her. Everyone has a place that is made special by someone or something. Sometimes it takes people longer to find that place than others. Some people search forever to find that special place; some succeed and some don’t. For me, I have already found my special place. My special place is a small camp tucked away in the mountains just outside of Philadelphia, a place called ISTC. ISTC is an acronym standing for International Sports Training Camp. It is a camp filled with many new sports and activities such as jet skiing, banana boating, a blob, and rock block plus so much more. We play sports from bubble soccer to rugby. What makes ISTC so special is not what you do at the camp but it is the people within ISTC that make it so unique. Camps can have jet skiing and such but the people and lessons learned is what makes this place so special. Check out some of the best things Summer 2016 has offered! Bubble Soccer has been an exciting addition to the All-Sports program! These inflatables have literally been a hit for our older campers. From playing traditional soccer to sumo wresting, these unique pieces have given our coaches the opportunity to invent new games and introduce our campers to something they have never done before. As a recreational sports camp, we enjoy fusing regimented sports with playful variations. Introducing the All-Sports Tournament this summer has provided a competitive outlet for campers who love to play sports in their true form. Dividing the junior, middle, and senior teams into mixed groups, they cycled through multiple sports such as handball, ultimate Frisbee, soccer, kickball, and more in a single session to determine a champion. The blueprint for the up and coming IXTC Village is set! With two new cabins hosting 20 beds each, the renovations will allow more campers to be a part of the experience. For the naturally extroverted children, spending a week at camp away from their home, friends, and family is a true paradise. They create connections easily, fully immerse themselves in the camp experience, and leave with more friends and memories than they could have ever imagined. On the other hand, a quieter camper may have a different experience. The first Sunday dinner might feel like a typical high school cafeteria movie scene. The lone camper is left to desperately scan the dining hall and search for a seat that looks promising and harmless. A quieter camper may initially struggle being alone at camp for the first time – that is, if you are at a camp other than ISTC. At ISTC, our staff and programs are designed to immediately integrate campers into the experience. Not only are our counseling and coaching staff trained to create inclusive, feel good environments, but the action at ISTC starts from the moment a camper checks in. The backyard cabin activities during check-in like football, taps, tunnel ball, jackpot, friendship bracelets, etc. are intentionally planned to allow campers to form relationships right from the get-go. For those who have been to ISTC before, your mind probably jumped right to banana boating, which is truly a great time. However, I wanted to put the spotlight on another feature that is equally as awesome, the Blob! If you have never been in the Blob’s presence before, it is a large rectangular shaped float that allows a camper to soar through the air and land with a massive splash in the lake. This cool result is achieved by having one camper sit on the very end, otherwise known as “the blobber”, while a second camper, “the jumper”, takes a leap onto the opposite side. The effect is like a seesaw, the jumper comes down, the blobber goes up, and everyone on the beach gets to witness the spectacle of someone floating through the air for those brief seconds. Many of you reading this may be incredibly excited and ready to give the Blob a go. On the other hand, I also understand that there may be some who cringe at the thought of getting launched into the air, wearing nothing but a life vest; and to be perfectly honest, that’s okay. It’s normal to feel nervous when faced with something new and potentially fearsome. Counseling the past two summers at ISTC and working with campers to overcome their fear of the Blob, I have discovered that this simple float can have one of the... --- - Published: 2016-04-14 - Modified: 2020-04-08 - URL: https://www.international-sports.com/always-green-istc/ - Categories: News We call ourselves Team Green! Respecting Mother Earth will always remain a priority at ISTC because preserving our grounds keeps our facilities’ natural beauty. The rustic elements of ISTC create a feeling of awe and we hope our campers and guests value it as much as we do. Our most prominent environmental initiative launched in 2011 when we installed solar panels. By placing solar panels on the roof of our Fieldhouse, we learned that we could take advantage of the constant sunlight exposure to create incredible energy savings. Solar power is truly amazing; in the first 14 months, the 40-kilowatt solar PV system saved 117,725 tons of carbon from being emitted into the atmosphere and generated 69,249 kw of electricity. To put this figure in perspective, 117,725 tons of carbon is equivalent to: Consuming 248,368 barrels of oil Traveling 134,000 miles in commercial air travel Driving a car for 10 years On top of our solar panels, we make a conscious effort to recycle as much as we can. Each cabin is equipped with a recycling bin to give our campers a chance to help us in our goal. Whether you are tackling algebra problems in math or developing a knack for the trombone in your local band, being actively engaged during the learning process is a must for optimal growth. Creating a tangible experience around the subject at hand not only gives you a memory to reflect on later, but also presents you with an opportunity to connect with the material. For example, think of all the times in school when you lazily slouched in your chair, pretending to listen to your teachers as they covered all of the material. You comfortably daydreamed your way through class while your teachers were under the impression that they successfully taught you a wealth of new information. It’s a win/win situation right? It feels as though it is, until the test comes around. Your happy daydream transforms into a miserable nightmare as you now stare blankly at the test questions. The teacher feels justified since they verbally reviewed all of the information, but you are here left with nothing but the vague memory of these lectures. While it couldn’t hurt to pay more attention in school, the real lesson is that teachers need to invite you to partake in the learning process. Conversely, summer camp at ISTC strongly encourages experiential learning and gives you skills that will improve your school performance. Playing a variety of sports, building friendships, and taking on responsibilities independently, places you at the center of the camp experience. Without the pressures... --- - Published: 2015-12-11 - Modified: 2020-04-08 - URL: https://www.international-sports.com/camp-gift-keeps-giving/ - Categories: ISTC, News Feeling consumed by the craziness of the holiday season is inevitable. A jar of holiday cookies is snickering at you to eat “just one more” while all the television specials are begging you to sit down, relax, and avoid all responsibilities. Not to mention, you are probably juggling the most overwhelming question, “What should I get for my child? ” Give the gift of sports camp this holiday season. It is the gift that keeps on giving long after their time at camp. Why Camp is the Perfect Gift Camp is a merely a four letter word used to describe an entire world of positive change. Spending a week away from familiar friends and family places a child in a new, foreign environment; however, learning to thrive in this type of setting instills a sense of confidence and boldness that will forever impact his/her actions. Camp allows a child to take this leap into the unknown in the safest way possible. Counselors, coaches, and other members of staff all work to support children as they take calculated risks and develop a willingness to try new things. Through an engaging, sports camp program, children not only have a fantastic time playing sports, but also expose themselves to the benefits of exploring new interests. Whether they are climbing a rock wall for the first time or venturing down the super steep mountain bike trail, children become accustomed to stepping out of their comfort zone to experience thrill, excitement, and more opportunities overall.... --- - Published: 2015-03-16 - Modified: 2019-05-22 - URL: https://www.international-sports.com/campfood/ - Categories: Uncategorized, News - Tags: camp food, camp meals, camper food allergies, campers with food allergies, dietary needs, eating healthy at camp, gluten-free, peanut free camp, sports camp, sports camp PA, sports camp USA When you're sending your child away to camp for the first time, there are a million and one things running through your brain. What do I pack? Can I call them while they're away? What sports will they play? At ISTC, one of the biggest questions we're asked is "What kind of food will my child be eating, and is it good? " Not only will your child eat well, but there's also a good chance that the camp food will be one of their top ten favorite things about ISTC! How do we know this? Our campers tell us! There's something for everyone on our ISTC menu. Even the pickiest of eaters can find a meal that they'll enjoy. We believe in preparing fresh and healthy meals that kids love to eat! We grow our own herb garden and shop local markets for fresh summer produce. We believe in homemade and do our best to make all our meals from scratch. We are also sensitive to campers with special dietary needs. Chef Rick is more than happy to talk to any parent who has a camper with a dietary restriction before camp or during our check-in to ensure that your camper is a happy one. Chef Rick has his certification from the Culinary Institute of America and offers a Gluten-Free Menu that is certified by the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness. Chef Rick is also certified by SafeFARE, a program of the Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE), who... --- - Published: 2015-02-04 - Modified: 2020-04-08 - URL: https://www.international-sports.com/10-tips-new-camp-parents/ - Categories: Uncategorized, Camp Resources, How to Prepare for Summer Camp, ISTC - Tags: How to prepare for summer camp Every summer, we love welcoming new campers into our ISTC family! It’s awesome for us as a camp to see first-time campers make it through the week and go home with increased confidence and new skills. Parents of new campers often call up and ask us for first-timer tips and how to prepare for summer camp. Dr. Chris Thurber gave a talk on the little things parents can do to get their child ready for sleepaway camp. (Find his video here) Here are Dr. Thurber’s top 10 tips: 1. Match your values. The first tip for how to prepare for summer camp is to make sure you select a camp whose philosophy fits your value system. Figure out what values are important to you, from religion to views on competition, and search for camps that match those views. Each camp is different and focuses on different things, so you will likely be able to find the perfect camp with some searching! Camp websites often contain a mission statement or key principles, (here is ISTC’s) and you can always reach out to camps to learn more about their core values! Placing your child in a camp who shares your core values will make it a much more comfortable experience for everyone! 2. Involve your child. Kids who feel part of the process in making both big and small camp-related decisions are more likely to enjoy camp once they get there. Excluding them from any decision-making can create a feeling of helplessness,... --- - Published: 2014-11-25 - Modified: 2020-04-10 - URL: https://www.international-sports.com/holidays-around-world/ - Categories: Uncategorized, ISTC, News - Tags: America, Australia, celebrate, celebrations, England, fun holiday, holidays, holidays around the world, International, Mexico, New Zealand, other countries, sports camp, United Kingdom We pride ourselves in our incredible staff at ISTC and the value that they bring to our camp. They are the best the world has to offer! Since so many of our staff members are international, they don't all celebrate the same holidays we do in the United States. We want to share with you some of their holidays! Australia: Our Aussie staff will be busy celebrating Australia Day on January 26th. This day involves raising of the Flag of Great Britain at that site by Governor Arthur Phillip, and also marks the anniversary of the 1788 arrival of the First Fleet of British Ships at Port Jackson, and New South Wales. Australians celebrate this day with festivals, picnics, parades, and much more, by both large and small communities! Mexico: Dia de los Muertos or The Day of the Dead is a holiday in Mexico that is celebrated every year. On this special day, the people in Mexico are ready to celebrate and welcome the spirits of their families! They celebrate with the delicious food, decorated skulls, and lighted candles to guide their family members home again. Even the gravestones are decorated, and the whole family will gather in the graveyard to wait and pay their respects to their deceased families. Our campers and staff have a special spirit and energy that is shared and felt by everyone who steps foot on ISTC grounds. With every summer having different components like new staff, new rec themes, new camp additions, and new smiling campers, we strive to make our campers feel like this is their home. Reflecting back on last summer, we had a ton of standout moments and memories that range from tug of war on the beach, an IXTC dodgeball win, epic wednesday night disco outfits, spontaneous disco pogo breakouts, to many delicious Wednesday night cook out (and cook in) nights. At ISTC, we want every day here to be the best day of our campers' lives! We're wishing all of our campers, families, and staff a wonderful holiday season and an incredible new year! We are thrilled with the progress so far and are excited to see this amazing addition to camp coming to life. This 18,500-square-foot building will allow us to comfortably seat all of our campers and staff for meals during the summer, will have an updated kitchen and serving areas, and features an expansive deck overlooking the lake for some great views on cookout nights. We're excited not only for our camp families to utilize this new building but also our retreat guests who stay with us at Trout Lake during the fall, winter, and spring months. With the new dining hall and three lower level meeting rooms, Trout Lake will be the perfect location to host everything from school groups to weddings!
